This is a George Washington Smith style house. He was an architect who perfected a unique southwestern style architecture based upon Spanish Andalusian and Moorish elements. We also borrowed from the colors and textures of the area. We took his principles and renderings and came up with this family compound.
The left photo shows the rough framing stage. Many backing blocks must yet be installed to provide “backing” for the fasteners used to install the trim. the right photo shows the project completed.
The left photo shows an area of the house at about 40% complete, the right is the same section 100% finished.
The left is a kitchen wall 40% complete. The right shows the same kitchen wall 100% finished. This photo illustrates the value of thoughtful amenities. Glass cabinet doors to share heirloom plates with the viewer. Decorative ceramic tiles serve as a “grease splash.” Appliance garages to remove appliances from distraction and getting in the way.
The left is a multi-purpose room 40% complete. The right photo shows the same multi-purpose room 100% finished. The return of the “murphy bed” allows a room to have many uses. Notice the need for a high level of coordination between designer and the doer. The wall-ceiling intersection is set off with a flat trim molding. A middle flat molding (picture mold) creates a sense of expanse with an elevated panel, and it runs through the transom light-door connection.
This is a view of the opposite corner in the multi-purpose room. This finished area provides a computer counter and it provides a hide-a-way retracting television shelf.
